Well, how have I fared after 5 days as a vegetarian? Pretty well actually. Have I craved any meat? No, but I nearly grabbed a slice of ham by accident. Not because of a craving, but because of sheer habit of what I have eaten for the past 40 years. They say it takes at least 21 days to break a habit…we’ll see!
I don’t seem to have too much trouble finding alternatives for breakfast and lunch, but dinner is a different kettle of fish altogether. Speaking of fish, I have agreed with myself that I will have fish once a week. I have allowed myself this to start with so that I don’t fail this resolution altogether.
I tried black beans in a wrap tonight for the first time as an alternative to beef. I have to say I didn’t really miss the beef, but as for falling in love with the beans, we may need to have a few more dates before I fully commit!
I have always enjoyed spinach and ricotta pastries, but I have never made any myself. That will be my task tomorrow, so I’m anxious to see if they will become part of my new repertoire!
